Three Rivers Are Festival: Competition open to students in grades K-12

One piece of original art per student.

Artwork drop-off: Friday, November 1st, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm; Saturday, November 2, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Atrium of the Saint Tammany Homestead Savings and Loan Association. Mandatory art pick up Sunday, November 10th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

Prizes: Ribbons, $50.00 Cash for best in show elementary, middle, jr. high, and high school

State Art Contest

Louisiana High School Athletic Association Poster Contest Sponsored by Cajun Industries: All High School Students in LHSAA Schools.

Rules: Entry must be in color, no smaller than 8.5 by 11, no larger than poster size. Design must include the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the title of the event (2013 LHSAA State Farm Prep Classic) and the artist’s signature. Attach entry form to back of artwork.

Deadline: October 5, 2013. Winner announced October 11, 2013

Prizes: Free hotel accommodations for one night in New Orleans, a feature article in the souvenir program, and free passes to the LHSAA State Farm Prep Classic, recognition at halftime of one of the state playoff games. $100 cash

National Essay Contests:

2014 Profiles in Courage Essay Contest: Grades 9-12

Original 1000 word essay that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in Profiles in Courage.

Submission Deadline: January 6, 2014

Prizes: First place $5,000 cash and $5,000 in a John Hancock Freedom 529 College Savings Plan. Second place: $1,000 cash. Finalists: $500.00 cash.

Knight Essay Contest sponsored by The Sons of the American Revolution: Grades 10-12

Original 800-1000 word essay containing title page, essay, bibliography, and contestant’s biography dealing with an event, person, philosophy, or ideal associated with the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or framing of the United States Constitution.

Submission Deadline: December 31, 2013

Prizes: Local winner $1000, state winner $500, National Winners: First place: $2,000; second place; $1,000; third place: $500.

Signet Classics Essay Competition

Signet Classics Essay Competition this is year is based on Beowolf. Grades 11-12, Ages 16-18.

One junior and one senior essay can be submitted from each school.

At least two but no more than three type written double spaced pages.

Submission deadline: April 21, 2014

Prizes: $1000 toward winners’ higher education. Signet Classics Library for the school.
