JAC / GB Memorial Golf Tournament
The Joseph A. Champagne / Gene Bennett Memorial Golf Tournament has taken several forms over the years and for the last several has paid tribute to two Saint Paul’s legends, long standing Saint Paul’s supporter, Joseph “Mickey” A. Champagne, and our iconic faculty member, Gene Bennett, AFSC. As a founding member of the Saint Paul Athletic Association in the early ‘50s, Mickey was at the center, working and giving for the good of the students of Saint Paul’s. Over the years, he and his company, Champagne Beverage, have been instrumental in contributing to a myriad of school events in addition to this beloved tournament. One cannot envision the hallmark of a Lasallian educator and mentor at Saint Paul’s School without having Coach Gene Bennett immediately come to mind. For nearly five decades, he touched the hearts of those entrusted to his care, representing us in a most genteel and exemplary fashion while serving in the capacities of a teacher, athletic director, alumni director, as well as a golf and basketball coach. Proceeds from the tournament are used to fund the Alumni Association as well as campus improvements and professional development for the faculty.
